Recognizing the growing transportation needs of the Metroplex, Interstate 30/State Highway 360 interchange project is a key transportation project to the TxDOT Fort Worth District. The project will replace the existing cloverleaf turnpike configuration with a modern fully directional interchange to expedite traffic flow. The current configuration was designed as a toll project in the early 1950s. The connections ran through toll booths that were no longer conducive to connectivity to these two major roadways. The improvements to the area will increase safety, connectivity and mobility for motorists.
The project lies in the heart of the Arlington Entertainment District that includes Six Flags Over Texas, Globe Life Park (Texas Rangers), AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys), Hurricane Harbor, the Arlington Convention Center, General Motors, and Bell Helicopter. SH 360 is also the Gateway to DFW International Airport.
Aguirre & Fields is responsible for the Construction Engineering Inspection services that include, but are not limited to structures including bridge, bridge class culvert, foundations, substructure, and superstructure; retaining walls; concrete and hot mix asphalt paving including subgrade; Storm Water Pollution Plan inspection, traffic management coordination; drainage; traffic signals, signing & striping; illumination; ITS landscape; and aesthetics. Our team is also performing inspection for the City of Arlington water and sanitary sewer lines. There are 19 different utilities that are affected by this project.
Aguirre & Fields modeled the bridges in 3D and used clash detection to confirm bridge clearances. Our team also modeled 3D bridge columns and footings, reporting 30 design conflicts prior to construction. The conflicts were reviewed with the design team, ultimately saving time in construction and potential damage to current infrastructure.
